<p>If you have had weight issues for a while you have probably already tried most of the fad diets that are currently popular. How much success have you had? Probably not much. The fact is that weight loss is something that cannot be accomplished through fad diets alone. Here are some of the weight loss tips that fad diet authors don&#8217;t want to share.</p>
<p>In most cases, weight loss is simply a matter of numbers. You just have to burn more calories than you consume. This forces your body to burn the calories that it has stored up around your body in fat cells to keep you energetic and functional. Calorie counting is not very much fun. In fact it can become very complicated because of the different calorie weights of different foods. You only want to take in calories that are useful to your body otherwise they will simply be stored.</p>
<p>Work with a health care professional to figure out exactly how many calories you should be burning each day to keep up with your weight loss efforts. </p>
<p>Don&#8217;t use the word &#8220;diet&#8221; for your new eating habits. Call it &#8220;making healthy choices&#8221; or something similar. Using the word &#8220;diet&#8221; often feels negative. You are more likely to resent what you are doing if you call it &#8220;dieting&#8221; than if you call it &#8220;eating healthier&#8221; or &#8220;eating natural food.&#8221; Instead of using negative images to describe your new eating habits you positive and action based words for your descriptions. This will help you feel a lot more proactive about your new lifestyle and you&#8217;ll have an easier time explaining your efforts to those who are asking questions about why your eating habits have changed.</p>

<p>Find something to distract you when you exercise. If you use a treadmill try putting the treadmill in front of a television set or try listening to music. Read a book while you ride a stationary bicycle. Distracting yourself keeps your mind off of the hard work your body is doing. When you have something else to concentrate on, you are more likely to keep working out regularly. You don&#8217;t have to worry about getting bored if you are distracted. If you get bored while you are exercising you are much less likely to keep going and then your weight loss won&#8217;t happen as easily.</p>
<p>Weight loss does not have to be tedious, boring or irritating. The fact is that losing weight is usually done by a person so that he or she can feel better. So much of a person&#8217;s self image is caught up in their weight that even a loss of a couple of pounds can improve a person&#8217;s self esteem.</p>
<p>If you approach your weight loss with the right mindset you won&#8217;t just be losing weight, you will be gaining health.</p>

You&#8217;ve probably heard the term &#8220;metabolism&#8221;, but do you really understand what it is and how to use it in your quest for heart health? Let me give you some pointers.<b>First, the definition of metabolism:</b>Metabolism is the minimum energy the body needs for basic bodily functions when resting and just awakened. Metabolism is more commonly referred to as the rate at which your body burns calories. <b>Why should you be concerned about metabolism?</b>If you boost your metabolism the more calories you burn when at rest and throughout your basic daily activities. This means fewer calories stored as fat and promotion of weight loss. The opposite is true also. If your metabolism drops, the calories you burn drops, and the result is weight gain.Your muscle mass has the greatest impact on your metabolism. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn. The less muscle equals the fewer calories. To add another wrench in your weight and heart health struggle, metabolism decreases as you age. The rate of decrease is about 2% every 10 years beginning at age 30. You can counteract this decline by being active and maintaining your muscle mass.Building an extra 5 pounds of muscle will boost your metabolism by ~100 calories each day.<b>So, how do you build muscle?</b>The best way is to start strength training. If this is an area you are unfamiliar with it&#8217;s best to work with a trainer for one or two sessions until you feel comfortable. Remember to always consult your MD before started an exercise program. You may be thinking, but what about my time on the treadmill? Yes, cardiovascular exercise does build muscle through repetition, but the main purpose of cardiovascular activities is to increase your heart rate to burn calories, not building muscle. Cardiovascular exercise temporarily boosts the rate you burn calories during the activity, but this rate decreases back to your normal level after the activity is complete and your heart rate returns to normal. It does not affect your metabolic rate throughout your day like strength training.Okay, you&#8217;ve decided you need to build some muscle and you&#8217;re gung ho to start. Great! But wait one second.A mistake I frequently see people make is trying to make too many changes at once. If you&#8217;re not currently active, suddenly jumping into lifting weights and jogging 5 days a week is not realistic and you set yourself up for failure. You need to take it one step at a time.Establishing a realistic plan is critical to your success when you strive to boost your metabolism, lose weight, and achieve heart health.&#13;

They would benefit from a helping hand.</p>
<p>For the individual that needs a helping hand and a structured weight loss program, they need to answer a few important questions in order to get the best weight loss program.</p>
<p>1. This is the most essential question: What are the facts about diet, exercise and weight loss?</p>
<p>With the advent of fad diets, special exercise regiments and all manner of junk science, it won&#8217;t be easy for the less trained practitioner to sort the wheat from the chaff, to sort fact from fiction. The untrained practitioner has to make common sense decisions were to find reliable information to make educated decisions about weight loss programs. Scientific studies don&#8217;t stand in isolation; they either support or contradict others. When you find that a number of serious sources agree, there could be good reason to give that weight loss program some credence.</p>
<p>2. Once you have educated yourself and made a educated determination of a weight loss program with a gym, then its time to find a knowledgeable and experienced trainer and nutritionist at the gym. </p>
<p>These professionals can be distinguished by the information that is passed along. Is the primary purpose of the information give to sell something? If so, the person giving this information may not be the person to pick. Pick someone that caters a weight loss program around you, someone that is trying to give wise counsel by directing you to wise eating habits, someone that offers something worthwhile and fundamental to the weight loss program.</p>
<p>Once you find a gym and/or nutritionist that can offer you good guidance and moral support, take advantage of the benefits offered. Such people can help remind you, when the going gets tough, of why you chose to make the effort in the first place. It&#8217;s difficult to adhere to a long-term program when the progress is slow.</p>
<p>3. Pick weight loss programs that have exercise programs that are oriented towards lifestyle changes that will help you lose weight and keep it off and will also keep you healthy and fit.</p>
<p>Counseling provided by fitness and nutrition professionals can help you do that. They can help you unlearn bad habits and learn better ones, and encourage you to stick with them.</p>
<p>Your trainer and/or nutritionist should monitor your progress. Trainers and/or nutritionist will use test and special tools to monitor your progress. It will be a good idea that you learn the same techniques. As you get further in your development you will start to make these habits in your lifestyle.</p>
<p>Some of those tools are as simple and inexpensive as a scale, a flexible tape measure and a mirror. Others may be a heart rate or pulse monitor, a device that measures body fat percentage and other things that often accompany a treadmill.</p>
<p>4. Last but not least, you&#8217;ll want to judge any program by how many people have actually found success using it. Beware of the hype. A few unsolicited opinions from people you don&#8217;t know won&#8217;t tell the whole story. Find out how many finished, and how much they lost, and were they able to keep the weight off. Also, learn whether there were any downsides or side effects.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s your health. That&#8217;s worth doing some homework to find the right weight loss program for you.&#13;

You would probably also feel the same way if you were in their shoes when you discover that you have embraced a fad diet that promised you would lose weight in the shortest time possible only to discover you ended up adding more weight as a result.</p>
<p>In reality, it does not work this way. Losing weight should be a gradual process because it took you quite some time to garner these unwanted and unhealthy weights in the first place. Thus, you would do far much better setting smaller, achievable targets for yourself when trying to lose weight. And if you must try to use the new smaller fitting clothes strategy as a source of motivation, go down a size at a time and don&#8217;t try buying anything you will have to take out a second mortgage to pay for them.</p>
<p>You would end up taking fad diets or those that offer you to lose weight quickly if you continue to dwell and concentrate on losing weight fast which have been found to be mere claims by their promoters.</p>
<p>One obvious fact a lot of people just fail to realize is that there are no such things as quick weight loss diets and no nippy weight loss for people who want to be slimmer than what their bodies can provide. A lot of people just tend to opt for the quick fix approach to losing weight and failing to realize these kinds of weight loss methods, diets or systems are hardly effective at all.</p>
